State Budget Supports Galt Mile Project

We publicly extend our greatest thanks and appreciation to Rep Chip LaMarca for his sponsorship of an appropriation in the state budget in the amount of $1.25 million for the Galt Ocean Drive Safety Improvements project. The governor signed the budget on June 29.

This is the final funding needed for the project. Over the past legislative sessions, Chip has worked and sponsored funding for this project and now with this latest addition, the funding coming from the state totals $2.25 million – half of the costs.

The Galt Ocean Drive Safety Improvements project includes repaving the street, new sidewalks, new street lighting, landscaping, and safety features at the intersections and crosswalks. The last time Galt Ocean Drive was renovated was 1996 – and the full costs were paid by residents (assessment of all owners) and businesses. This time – the costs are fully funded by the state and Fort Lauderdale. The bidding process is underway and we anticipate work starting in the fall of 2026.

We would be remiss if we did not publicly thank Fort Lauderdale Commissioner John Herbst for his support, and City Manager Rickelle Williams for her support from the city staff.

One final thanks to former Fort Lauderdale city commissioner Heather Moraitis, who put together the funding plan to finance this project, getting commitments for funding from the state and the city of Fort Lauderdale. Her support at this crucial stage meant the project would go forward, and the residents of the Galt Mile would net be assessed for the costs.

The next CPR/AED class for Galt residents and staff will be held on Tuesday, May 12 from 10-11 am at Coral Ridge Towers North. There is no cost – it’s FREE – but those planning to attend must pre-register with Cornelia at: Corneliasouthpoint@aol.com

EV Charging Stations Now on Galt Ocean Drive

Six EV charging stations have been installed in the south and north city parking lots along Galt Ocean Drive. These new stations are pat of the total renovations of the two parking lots. Both were resurfaced, repaired and improved drainage, and lighting added.

The stations are Level II, 40 amp, where a 4-hour charge provides sufficient charge. The cost is $5 per hour, payable through the city’s ParkingMobile app, or by purchasing a sticker for $50 a monthly EV charging permit which is valid at all Fort Lauderdale city EV charging stations. The Galt Mile Community Association expresses it thanks to the city for their commitment to placing EV charging stations on the Galt Mile and for the improvements in the two city parking lots. The next project is the Galt Ocean Drive Safety Improvements project, which will hopefully begin this summer.
