MINUTES OF GMCA ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
  May 19, 2016
The meeting was called to order at 11:10 a.m. by President Pio Ieraci at Nick�s Italian Restaurant.
Board Members present: : Ieraci, Berkowitz, Hamaker, Nesbitt, McBride, Adams, Bazerghi, Bendis, Bibace, Cave, Cella, Cerciello, Chapman, Doran, Friedman, Goldstein, Hashek, Katz, Kessler, Larson, Madgett, Mancke, Neill, Pohan, Quqa, Soucy, Vega and Wenberg.
Guests present: Fort Lauderdale Police Department Officer George Brandner; Peter Flotz, Managing Director, Lansing Melbourne Group (LMG), Courtney Crush, Crush Law, Attorney representing Galleria Mall � �Live Galleria� Development; Charlotte Rodstrom, Fort Lauderdale Mayoral Candidate.
Approval of Minutes - Minutes of the April 21, 2016 Advisory Board Meeting were approved.
Old and New Business/Guests
Pio introduced Courtney Crush and Peter Flotz, who gave an in-depth presentation of the proposed redevelopment of the Galleria Mall
Pio introduced Fort Lauderdale Police Officer George Brandner, who shared the following information:
Discussed enforcement of Ordinances that prohibit sleeping or storing possessions on a public right-of-way, soliciting in heavy traffic, �aggressive� soliciting, and other behaviors that are dangerous and/or illegal.
Although Police Outreach Teams offer a spectrum of services and resources to the homeless, many decline assistance � as past experience with local authorities often leaves them distrustful.
Pio introduced former City Commissioner Charlotte Rodstrom, who spoke about her experience and intention to run for Fort Lauderdale Mayor in 2018.
Buses
Pio shared a letter sent to City Manager Lee Feldman strongly opposing the continued use of Galt Ocean Drive as a layover site for BCT Route #72 buses, observing that City property damaged by the buses has still not been repaired; and how vacated buses continue to block traffic as well as a handicap ramp.
Galt Ocean Mile Street Landscape - Jos� �Chepo� Vega
Chepo explained how parked delivery trucks often leave their motors running, burning the adjacent hedges and unnecessarily polluting the air. Chepo requested that building personnel ask parked delivery drivers to turn their motors off.
Despite the need to rehabilitate benches along neighborhood sidewalks, since they belong to the City � not adjacent associations � only the City can legally address this issue.

April 26, 2016 - Calling for Help: 911 is Still on Hold - Ten years after 80% of Broward�s voters mandated a countywide consolidation of emergency dispatch services in 2002, public officials from the county and its 31 municipalities finally acknowledged that doing so would shave precious minutes from the emergency response time � where the difference between life and death is often measured in seconds. For decades, emergency calls that were fielded in one of a dozen dispatch centers throughout the county were chronically dropped or �misdirected�. In other words, some people calling 911 about a robbery, break-in or a body on their front lawn might just as well have reported the incident to Dairy Queen. The county-wide system implemented on October 2014 has faced horrific growing pains, which a consultant may soon correct. This is what's happening...
May 8, 2016 - Bahia Mar: Rebirth or Snake Oil -Fort Lauderdale's two-legged economy is driven by tourism and the Marine Industry. Since the Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show identifies South Florida�s $11.5 billion Marine Industry with the City of Fort Lauderdale, when a rumored relocation by Show Management CEO Efrem Zimbalist III threatened to hijack the yearly windfall, nerves in City Hall were stripped raw. While the world�s largest Boat Show is distributed over 7 sites in the city, including most of the City�s major Marinas and the Convention Center, ground zero is the Bahia Mar Resort & Marina at 801 Seabreeze Boulevard. The 39-acres of barrier island that cradles Bahia Mar from the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal is owned by the City of Fort Lauderdale - and a new lease is up for grabs.
May 15, 2016 - April 2016 LaMarca Letter - In his April 2016 Newsletter, District 4 Broward Commissioner Chip LaMarca welcomes Broward Navy Days Fleet Week festivities to Port Everglades, notes that the F-35 Lightning �Joint Strike Fighter� will make it civilian debut at the Fort Lauderdale Air Show, enumerates �BrowardPetFix� spay/neuter programs such as SNIP, Portable Sterilization Units, Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR), and Returned-to-Field (RTF), applauds two restaurants in Broward County�s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (Shula Burger in Terminal 1 and Food Network Kitchen in Terminal 3) for their recognition by USA Today �10Best� Readers� Choice National top 10 list and cites a Sea Turtle Conservancy grant that enabled Broward County to protect nesting Sea Turtles by crafting and installing Sea Turtle informational signs at county-wide beach access locations.
Other Business
Mel Kessler asked about the status of moving the buoys since extending our beach effectively brings them closer to the shoreline, endangering swimmers who are also closer to boating lanes.
Galleon has an issue with beach furniture being used and/or stolen by people from a neighboring association. Discussed how erecting a permanent barrier on the beach to delimit the properties in question would require a State permit. A temporary barrier was approved by the State.
Discussed toddlers using our swimming pools and how this is handled at our various buildings. Regulations addressing incontinence must be non-discriminatory - and cannot simply target children. The Broward County Health Department has rules regarding this issue.
Treasurer�s Report - Fred Nesbitt
The Treasurer reported a balance of $15,268.88.
After discussing a contribution to the Galt Mile Reading Center/Library, Pio made a motion to contribute $250.00. The motion was seconded and approved.
Adjournment - The next regular Advisory Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Nick�s Italian Restaurant.
