MINUTES OF GMCA ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
  June 21, 2018
The meeting was called to order at 11:12 a.m. by President Pio Ieraci at Nick�s Italian Restaurant.
Board Members present: Ieraci, Berkowitz, Hamaker, Hashek, McBride, Nesbitt, Surdovel, Abruzzino, A. Adams, B. Adams, Bazerghi, Bibace, Deevy, Hall, Katz, Kessler, Larson, Madenfort, Madgett, Mosias, Pohan and Sarelakos
Guests present: Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Heather Moraitis; Melissa Coningsby, Assistant to City Commissioner Heather Moraitis; Lindsey Bornstein, Denise Grimsley, City of Fort Lauderdale Police Officers Tom Gestal and Ted Levin
Approval of Minutes - Minutes of the May 17, 2018 Advisory Board Meeting were approved.
Old and New Business
Lindsey Bornstein, from the Commissioner of Agriculture & Consumer Services Office, was introduced and shared information about illegal robo calls, etc.
On behalf of Terry Claire, Eric Berkowitz read a letter from Chip LaMarca about the Galt Library.
Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Heather Moraitis was introduced and shared information regarding:
Water/Sewage Rates:
Discussed a mass email campaign by residents targeting the commissioners and the mayor in support of the hybrid plan
Fred Nesbitt explained planned water usage rates
Discussed rate parity between condos and single-family homes
Street Lighting :
Replacing the broken lights was begun, then delayed to wait for equipment. Date to be completed: July 7.
Galt Patrol: Officers Gestal & Levin
Crime: 2 stolen cars - 5/18/18 and 6/11/18
Explained that keys can be digitally copied
Purses should be strapped in grocery cart
When in public, rings should be turned inside out
Homeless issue remains a huge problem
Extremely important to keep car doors locked
Buses:
Buses that were parked on Galt Ocean Drive caused significant damage to cutouts and curbs; a letter will be sent to review the damage.

The test trees are now in place. It will take one year for the test project to be completed.
Engineered Life Safety Systems � ELSS:
Since we didn�t achieve full association participation (19 buildings agreed to pay/14 collected) the attorney will not represent us.
Discussed the following options: 1. Return money to the buildings; 2. Take other action; 3. Hire a different law firm. Take another approach.
Compliance deadline: December 31, 2019.
Pio will send out a message soliciting opinions, etc.

June 7, 2018 - Commissioner Heather Moraitis: Sober Homes Law - In her May 2018 Newsletter, District 1 City Commissioner Heather Moraitis encourages constituents to download the Neighbors application (i.e. Ring), to access a series of security cameras for safety purposes; reminds us to separate yard waste from bulk trash; promotes the restoration of Florida Bright Futures Scholarship awards to their pre-recession levels; recruits volunteers to help in the Salvation Army kitchen and reviews the provisions of a Community Residences Ordinance approved at the April 17, 2018 City Commission meeting. It authorizes zoning regulations that govern the placement of Sober Homes within Fort Lauderdale. Until now, Federal law precluded local governments from regulating these Halfway Houses. While some are excellent, others are parasitically fraudulent and dangerous � and fuel the disintegration of residential neighborhoods. Maybe yours...
June 17, 2018 - LaMarca: Economic Engines - Since initially elected, District 4 Broward Commissioner Chip LaMarca has staunchly supported the county�s economic engines. As Enterprise Funds, these money machines don�t burn through tax dollars, but sink or swim on inhouse profits. In his May 2018 constituent update, while enumerating a litany of world-class cruise vessels scheduled to serve Port Everglades travelers, LaMarca looks at two regional economic engines - major Broward transportation hubs - and serves up statistical evidence of dynamic growth in Port Everglades amd Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood International Airport. Despite its omission from LaMarca's May 2018 Newsletter, the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center is widely characterized as a third county economic engine, although crippling neglect annually veils a diminishing fiscal dividend. However, the County Board is about to launch a fourth attempt to correct this shortcoming, as the first three became victims of greed, turf protection and stupidity...
Other Business
Discussed paint/damage to our sidewalks; importance of addressing this issue: who is going to fix them, how and when.
Pet Stations: Buildings will refill collection bags, however, the city needs to supply the bags.
Two buoys are missing: one offshore at L�Hermitage and one at South Point.
Fred Nesbitt reported that the new fire station is 70% completed.
