The meeting was called to order at 11:15 a.m. by President Pio Ieraci at Nick�s Italian Restaurant.
Pio introduced Robbie Uptegrove, Assistant to Bruce Roberts, City of Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner.
Chepo brought to Robbie�s attention three port-a-potties on Playa del Sol�s front lawn, the servicing of which damaged adjacent shrubbery. Robbie will follow up.
FDOT is on schedule to finish the current A1A resurfacing project by December (newly paved streets, reduced from 3 to 2 lanes in each direction, new mast arms supporting traffic signals, etc.).
Discussed extraordinarily high accident rate where A1A is intersected by Galt Ocean Drive from the east and NE 32nd Street from the west, which will be addressed in the next phase of the project. Jack Friedman suggested a petition to help focus FDOT�s attention to this dangerous intersection.
Chepo asked Fred Nesbitt about pebbles on the sidewalk in front of Playa del Mar.
Tom Gestal, Fort Lauderdale Police Department, reported that the neighborhood�s crime statistics showed improvement during August and September. He reminded us to lock our cars and avoid leaving any items visible inside of the cars. Car thefts mostly occurred on public streets, not in parking lots.
John Newstreet, District Director for Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca, gave an encouraging update about the planned Segment II beach renourishment.
Fred Nesbitt, who sits on the City�s Budget Advisory Board, shared information on the City budget.
Pio asked for any ideas, suggestions worthy of adding to an Omnibus Association Bill in the next legislative session. Pio also informed us that meetings have been scheduled to address turtle-related issues.
An unacceptable contract was received from prospective promoters of the Galt Mile Wine and Food Festival. We are awaiting additionalinformation and an acceptable contract.
Bob Wolfe of Broward County Property Appraiser Lori Parrish�s office reminded members that Deputy Property Appraisers are available to assist homeowners with exemption issues on the last Friday of the month at the Beach Community Center. The 2013 outreach dates should be posted in each building. He added that the proposed constitutional amendments that will appear on the ballots are badly timed since they will force local jurisdictions to raise taxes or cut services. He said that legitimate changes should be made to the tax code, not the constitution. He especially admonished that we vote �NO� on amendment #4.
Other Business
Comcast contract renewals information will be shared at one of the upcoming Presidents Council meetings. Information about Comcast is available on the Galt Mile website and will be in the December edition of the Galt Mile News.
Mel Kessler invited fellow basketball enthusiasts to attend Tuesday morning breakfasts held by the South Florida Basketball Fraternity; he will ask buildings to post information.
Chepo announced that the City will soon begin rehabilitating our benches.
Discussed pros and cons of expanding Galt Mile membership to include associations south of Oakland Park Boulevard., such as new member The Tides at Bridgewater Square.
Treasurer�s Report - Leah Glickfield
The treasurer�s report showed a balance of $14,495.96.
The following buildings have not paid their yearly dues: Caribe, The Galleon, Plaza East, Royal Ambassador and Il Lugano.
Next Advisory Board Meeting - The next regular Advisory Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Nick�s Italian Restaurant.
