MINUTES OF GMCA ADVISORY BOARD MEETING

MARCH 20, 2003

President Rozema called the Meeting to order at 11:00 A.M.

Board members present: Rozema, Glickfield, Gill, Guttman, Quinlan, Ieraci, Berkowitz, Freismuth, Casier, Ayoub, Ludwig, Nicholson-Brown, Rossi, Schultz, and Vincent. The minutes of the February 20, 2003 Board Meeting were not prepared. Leah noted that the Minutes for the February 20, 2003 and the March 20, 2003 meetings would be presented for approval at the April 17, 2003 meeting.

Fort Lauderdale Police Assistant Chief Chuck Drago - President Rozema presented Police Assistant Chief Chuck Drago and told us of his excellent background. Chief Drago has addressed us before and has always cooperated with us and our requests. He noted that the Fort Lauderdale Police Force is a member of the Joint Terrorist Task Force. We have increased our own security in the Police Department at City Hall. He stated that it is difficult to hire qualified people - even though the pay is higher than most police departments in the U.S. Chief Drago noted that he is proud to announce that presently we have no vacancies in the police department. He looks forward to the possibility of a new police building as the present one is in pretty bad shape. Chief Drago was questioned as to the possibility of a regular police patrol on the entire beach. He replied that would not be feasible - however some of the policemen do special-guard duty moonlighting. The question of homeless people came up and he replied they try and tell them where to go - i.e. Salvation Army etc. - but there is no way they can force them off the street. Hence, he said they try to keep them moving at least. President Rozema expressed our appreciation to Chuck Drago for the outstanding service that he and his force provide to us.

The $100,000 Question - next meeting this will be discussed (money from LAmbiance to our Association.)

LAmbiance - Only one apartment left for sale. Occupancy to start soon.

Sprinkler Update - Eric noted that there are so many other issues on the Calendar that the legislature may have to address this in the next session. So far there are 44 buildings that have contributed to the lobby fund for Becker-Poliakoff.
